The Power of the Month is Strength

The Power of the Month is Strength

Strength – is the faculty of steadfastness, dependability, stability, and our capacity for endurance.  It is not merely a physical endowment, but rather a degree of spiritual awareness. It is not a force, manipulation, or defensiveness. It is spiritual courage and confidence. Nonresistance is the highest expression of strength. Nonresistance does not mean non-action; it is an effective, calm, single-minded God-centered attitude of mind.                                         Metaphysics 2

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his castle, his property is safe. But when one stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his plunder.”  Jesus gave the foregoing illustration of a strong man being overcome by a stronger.  The incident is mentioned in three of the Gospels, those of Matthew, Mark, and Luke.  It is usually interpreted as illustrating in a general way the overcoming of evil, but the peculiar identification of the strong man in his court (or house), and the necessity of overcoming him, hint a deeper significance.

The "strong man fully armed," referred to by Jesus is the strength and stability in man.  In the natural man he is manifest as physical strength, but in the Spiritual Journey he is overcome and his possessions are divided and given to the other faculties as a nucleus around which the higher forces gather.  The "stronger than he" who takes away the "whole armor" in which the strong man trusted is spiritual strength.

The overcoming of Goliath by David illustrates the mastery of the spiritual over the material.  Goliath trusted in his armor, which represents the protective power of matter and material conditions.  David, spiritual strength, had no armor or material protection.  David's power was gained by trust in divine intelligence, through which he saw the weak place in Goliath's armor.  Direct to this weak place, with the sling of his concentrated will, he sent a thought that shattered the forehead of the giant.  This incident shows how easy it is to overcome the seemingly strong personal and material conditions when the mind of Spirit is brought into action.

David was sure of himself, because he had slain the lion that had killed his sheep.  The lion is the beast in man; when overcome, or, rather, transmuted to finer energy, this lion becomes a mighty soul strength. The Supreme strength, which Jesus demonstrated can be attained by one who trusts in Spirit and conserves his vital energy.  The strength of Spirit is necessary to the perpetuation of soul and body and to the overcoming of death.   The strength here discussed is not physical strength alone, but mental and spiritual strength.  All strength originates in Spirit.

We grow to be like that which we idealize.  Affirming a mighty spiritual principle identifies the mind with that principle; then all that the principle stands for in the realm of ideas is poured out upon the one who affirms.

Brain Washing, by Schuyler Cronley, from Notes by a Skylark

We hear a great deal these days about the process of “Brain Washing”. It is not a new process, for ages, mankind has used it to force to others to believe whatever the user of that force would have them believe. In fact, Christian people are “Brain Washed” materialists who have come to believe in Jesus Christ to be the Almighty Power and Force of Truth. The difference is that Jesus the Christ does it by love, and light and an evolving process. We are all being “Brain Washed” daily by the beliefs of our families, the newspaper, the TV, the false appearances of our world, but once again the difference is in what we are brain washed with – truth or falsehood. Which do we accept and open our heart to? Divine Will or…

Notes From A Skylark, by Skylar Cronley

Speaking of Stars

Someone, I believe it was Emerson, once said: “Hitch your wagon to a star.” The difficulty in this for most people comes in trying to decide which star. The Star of Bethlehem is always a good one to start with – then you won’t have to hitch and unhitch so many times.

Who Do You Think You Are?

Many people have asked this question of one another a great many times and received many varied answers. If you want a real “Stumper” answer to this question the next time someone asks it of you, you could say, “I am a son of God” – Of course, there is only one catch to that, and that is that you have to live and act like one to prove it.
