Cummunity Literacy Centers Are Coming to Unity!

Cummunity Literacy Centers

are coming to Unity!

Did you know there are about 140,000 adults living in Oklahoma County who are functionally illiterate? This means they have difficulty filling out job applications, getting a driver’s license, helping their children with

homework, etc., etc. Many of these adults are also limited English speakers. Others have dyslexic bodies or for whatever reason “fell through the cracks” in school and never learned to read.

As a part of our Love In Action Program, we have accepted an exciting new community outreach project in collaboration with a non-profit organization called Community Literacy Centers of Oklahoma County. This organization partners with local churches, libraries, and workplaces to provide free adult reading and ESL

classes. CLC provides a certified paid teacher and all the materials.

We will provide a place for the classes, volunteers to help in the classroom, and help promote the classes in our local community. The classes will meet twice a week for 2 hours each time. The days and times have not been set. We need volunteers to help in the class and volunteers to help with childcare. If you would like to help with this worthwhile project, Community Literacy provides training once a month for the classroom volunteers at their office, 5131 N. Classen Circle, Suite 204, Oklahoma City, OK. 73118.
